This paper argues that the English subtitles of Peppa Pig function not merely as accessibility tools for the hearing impaired, but as meticulously engineered pedagogical texts. By analyzing the subtitles’ treatment of lexical repetition, paralinguistic features (snorts, sobbing), and culturally specific idioms, this study demonstrates how the closed captioning (CC) and standard English subtitles serve as a scaffold for second language (L2) acquisition, bridging the gap between naturalistic child-directed speech and formal written English.
