After moving into the Santibáñez mansion, Marimar is mistreated by Sergio’s stepmother Angélica and cousin Inocencia. Sergio, believing false accusations about Marimar’s infidelity, abandons her. She loses her unborn child, and her grandfather dies. Heartbroken but transformed, Marimar leaves, becomes rich and sophisticated, and returns to seek revenge — but still loves Sergio.
