The fifth manifestation of this phenomenon, locally logged as " Ilathumbile-Mazha-5 ", was observed this week across high-altitude shola forests. What is ‘Ilathumbile Mazha’? Unlike conventional rain driven by monsoon winds, Ilathumbile Mazha occurs during inter-monsoonal dry spells. Cold air draining from upper slopes meets rising warm, moist air from valleys. Condensation forms directly on leaf apices, especially of melastoma and wild rhododendron. Drops coalesce until heavy enough to fall – often only a few hundred per square meter.
