It analyzes the linguistic and cultural adaptations made to appeal to North Indian audiences, the dubbing industry’s role in Hollywood film distribution in India, and the reception of the “giant monster” genre within Hindi-speaking markets. The paper argues that Hindi dubbing transforms King Kong from a Western cinematic spectacle into a localized mythological narrative, often emphasizing themes of dharma (duty) and rakshas (demon) archetypes.
The Hindi dubbing does not translate literally. For example, Kong’s roar is preserved, but human dialogues replace Western idioms with Hindi equivalents. Phrases like “It wasn’t the airplanes.
