But somewhere between the chūnin exams and the war… fear turned into something else.

But that’s what makes them real.

Gaara was a weapon. A monster. A lonely boy drowning in blood and silence. Kankurō was afraid of him — painted his face to hide his fear, kept his distance, threw kunai when he couldn’t run.

They still bicker. Kankurō still complains about babysitting. Gaara still talks too little and cares too much. gaara kaakkaa

Not the blood. The choice. “I’ll stay.”

Kankurō stood by Gaara when no one else would. Carried him when he fell. Fought beside him, not because of duty, but because he finally saw his little brother — not the sand demon, not the Kazekage — just Gaara. They didn’t start as family
