Leo went first. He made a red scarf disappear. The audience clapped. Mia sang “Summer Sunshine.” Her voice was loud and clear. Everyone cheered. Ben walked to the microphone. His hands were shaking. He told the ladder joke. For one second, nobody laughed. Then — everyone laughed! Ben smiled.

First, Leo did his magic trick again. This time, the coin came back! “Ta-da!” Mia sang her song perfectly. Ben finally told his joke without laughing first: “Why did the music teacher carry a ladder? To reach the high notes!”
Mia practiced her song, “Summer Sunshine.” She had a beautiful voice, but she kept forgetting the second verse. Ben tried to tell a joke about a chicken crossing the road, but he laughed before the punchline. Leo went first
After the show, Mr. Adams said, “You were all fantastic! But who was the best?”
That afternoon, everyone practiced. Leo showed his friends a trick with a coin and a cup. “Abracadabra!” he said. The coin disappeared. “Wow!” said Mia. “You’re better than last year!”
