I reached out a hand and slowly approached the cat. To my surprise, it nuzzled my hand, purring contentedly. I scooped it up in my arms and cradled it like a baby.
As I sat there, I began to hear all sorts of strange noises. The creaks and groans of the old building seemed amplified in the darkness, and I found myself jumping at every little sound.
I made my way back to my room, the cat still in my arms, and settled back into bed. As I drifted off to sleep, I smiled, knowing that I had faced my fears and come out on top.
Suddenly, I heard a loud bang from outside my room. I froze, my heart racing with fear. I slowly got up from my bed and made my way to the door. I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should investigate or just stay hidden under my covers.
The power had gone out during a storm, and I was left with only the faint glow of my phone's screen to light my way. I had tried to call the electric company, but they had told me that it would be hours before someone could come to fix the lines.
As I stood there, holding the cat, I realized that the darkness wasn't so scary after all. In fact, it had led me to a unexpected encounter with a new friend.
