Lahiri Mahasaya (1828–1895), a revered yogi and the modern progenitor of Kriya Yoga, was a householder guru who left behind a profound spiritual legacy. However, unlike many prolific authors, he did not write books or scriptures in the traditional sense. He primarily communicated through letters, short commentaries, and compilations of his sayings recorded by disciples.
